In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge : “Symbol.”
The Konark Sun Temple in Orissa, India is famous for its intricate stone carvings. The temple is in the shape of a huge chariot with twelve pairs of elaborately carved stone wheels. You can see one of the wheels in the photograph. The wheels of the chariot are symbolic and have been interpreted as the ‘Wheel of Life’. Each wheel has eight spokes which signifies eight parts of a day starting from dawn. It may also be interpreted as eight different periods of the life of a human being. The figures carved on each of the eight spokes are very symbolic as well. They symbolises the activities of human beings at different stages of life.
Fascinating symbols. Beautiful photo too.
